Claims For Slips, Trips & Falls in Public Places

If you have suffered an injury as a result of trips, slips and falls in public places, contact the experienced ‘no win, no fee’ compensation solicitors at Darbys. We regularly handle compensation claims in Poulton-Le-Fylde, Blackpool, Lancashire and the UK in general.

Most personal injury claims tend to be for accidents which happened in a public place such as parks, shops, shopping centres, restaurants, schools, cinemas, bars, even the communal areas of residential buildings. This is an almost endless list, but one in which the key principles are the same.

Contact Alkers’ public injury solicitors to find out if you can make a compensation claim; call freephone 0800 00 55 44 or complete the enquiry form.

Making a Compensation Claim

Wherever your accident has occurred, if someone else is at fault then you could have a valid claim for compensation.

Claims of this nature come under the Occupiers’ Liability Act 1957. The Act states that the occupier or owner of the public place in which the slip, trip or fall occurs, has a duty of care to visitors, and therefore must ensure that they remain reasonably safe whilst using the premises (or land) for the purpose for which they are allowed to be there. This is not an absolute duty and no-one is liable for a pure accident or another person’s misadventure.

The same can be true even if you were not a lawful visitor. If you were trespassing on another person’s land and suffered an accident, you may still be able to claim for compensation. Under the Occupier’s Liability Act 1984, all occupiers or owners have a duty of care to all persons including unauthorised visitors. There are other criteria which must be met in order to pursue a valid claim in these circumstances, but one of the specialist public injury solicitors here at Alkers would be happy to advise you about this.
